Can't change type of variable (dropdown not working after a while)

It is the 2nd time now that I have the problem that I can't open the dropdown to choose between "string", "int" and "expression". Restarted the project several times, created and new empty project where I just put one step ("Set variable") into it...
"String" is preselected and I can't choose any other type. The only thing to get it working again was to deinstall BAS completely, restart the server and install it new (Premium download from the link provided in my userarea).
Any advice to avoid this issue in the future? As it is quite annoying to re-install BAS everytime.
